Miroslav Šatan International Ice Hockey Tournament takes place in Bratislava (Ondrej Nepela Arena). The tournament starts on 28th of December and ends after playoffs on 30th of December. The age group for this tournament is U13, 2006 born and under.
Prime mover of this event is Miroslav Šatan.
Miroslav Šatan is the former professional ice hockey player who currently works as the General Manager of national teams for Slovak Ice Hockey Federation. He's one of the most successful ice hockey players in Slovakian hockey history and was recently inducted into Slovak Hockey Hall of Fame.
The main idea of this event is to give the kids the opportunity to play ice hockey, have fun playing ice hockey, develop themselves and also get to know other ice hockey cultures, in fact we host clubs from USA (Long Island Gulls), Russia (SKA Strelna Petersburg), Finland (Pelicans Lahti), Czech Republic (HC Slavia Praha, HC Sparta Praha) and Slovakia (HC Slovan Bratislava).
The organization staff of the tournament consists of the parents, students from University Haaga-Helia, Finland and volunteers. Parents’ roles are wide-side, for instance, referee, penalty box, arranged accommodation and so on.
At the end of the tournament, the top three teams will be rewarded with gold, silver and bronze trophies and medals. The tournament committee will reward the best players in each position with individual awards (best goalkeeper, best defenceman, best forward and MVP of the tournament). The teams that are not on the medal positions will be also rewarded with medals of the tournament participation.
