HC Great is hobby hockey ice hockey team from Jämsä that has been active in the Jämsä icehall practicing and participating in international tournaments for 26 years. Over the years we have participated in tournaments in Germany, England, Slovakia, Czech, Austria and Canada. From the 2000 Millenium tournament in Straubing, Germany began a special friendship with German club RSC Pillnach Eisbäre and English club Swindon Knights. In tournaments organised by Pillnach we have been involved 7 times and Knights tournaments 4 times.
HC Great has previously held an international tournament in Jämsä 4 times in 2003, 2008, 2013 and 2018. RSC Pillnach Eisbäre and Knights have been in all the tournaments we have organised in Jämsä and they have become special Jämsä and Finland fans.
From 31.3.-2.4.2023, 9 teams will participate in the tournament. RSC Pillnach Eisbären from Germany, Nationwide Knights and Westminister Statesmen from England, Ice Boys from Slovakia, IEHC Wyvern from Austria and Sawbay Lightning from Pori (Finland) and Winbledon Strangers from Vimpeli (Finland). HC Great forms 2 teams (Blue & Orange) in its own tournament.
At the HC Great team is about 40 mostly Jämsä based hobby hockey players. The age range of players in is approx 20-70 years. There's already players of a second generation.
HC Great's 26 years of operation is a big part of Jämsä sporting cultural tradition. When the team participates in tournaments in Europe we represent Jämsä sport culture and promote awareness of Jämsä.
