GAME FORMAT

The two-series tournament is played under Finnish Ice Hockey Association U14 age rules. Games are played on a full-size rink, 5v5. In all series, there are five teams, and the teams play a single round-robin followed by placement matches.

The team that finishes fifth in the preliminary group will play four (4) games, while the teams that reach the medal games (Preliminary group positions 1-4) will play five (5) games. Each game consists of 2×15 minutes of effective game time or a total time of 45 minutes. The bronze and final matches are played with 2 x 15 minutes of effective time, with no total time limit.

DETERMINING PLACEMENTS

The winner of a game receives two (2) points. If a game ends in a tie, both teams receive one (1) point. The losing team gets zero (0) points. If teams are tied in points after all preliminary games, the standings are determined as follows:

  • Head-to-head match
  • Goal difference in head-to-head matches
  • Goal difference in group matches
  • Goals scored in group matches
  • Draw

SHOOTOUT IN MEDAL GAMES

If the final or bronze match is tied after regulation, a shootout will immediately follow, according to the rules of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association (SJL), with the following exceptions:

The shootout begins with the visiting team as marked in the schedule. Each team names three shooters. If tied after three pairs, the shootout continues in sudden death, one pair at a time, starting with the home team. The same player cannot shoot twice before all other players have shot at least once. The game is decided when one team scores and the other does not in the same pair.

GAME DURATION AND RULES

The tournament follows the current competition and game rules for U14 juniors set by the Finnish Ice Hockey Association (SJL), with the following exceptions and specifications:

  • Game time is 2 x 15 minutes of effective time. The total game time per match is 45 minutes.
  • Bronze and final matches: 2 x 15 min of effective time, no total time limit.
  • Intermission: about 1-2 minutes.
  • Time-outs are not allowed.

  • Referees have the right to remove individuals from the tournament for inappropriate behavior.
  • Missing player name or number in the match record does not entitle the opponent to protest.
  • Match records are based on team-provided player lists. Changes must be reported to the tournament officials 30 minutes before the first match.

PENALTIES

SJL competition and junior rules are followed.

  • Game misconduct penalty: A player or team official given a game misconduct is sent off for the remainder of the match. A second game misconduct means suspension for the next game. A third game misconduct results in expulsion from the tournament.
