Playing rules of the tournament

1. Playing time

Each game consists of two twenty (20) twenty minutes’ periods with maximum time limit of sixty (60) minutes per game.

When fifty-seven (57) minutes of running time has been elapsed, it will be announced. After that the game will come to an end after two (2) minutes’ playing time. Sounding of the buzzer signifies the end of the game.

There is a two (2) minutes’ intermediate between the periods.

No time-outs allowed.  

After scoring, only the skaters on ice at the time of scoring are allowed to cheer. Other players’ entering the rink for cheering is considered delaying the game.

2. Ice resurfacing

The ice is resurfaced after each game, the tournament schedule permitting. The tournament organizer is entitled to change the starting times of the games should there be peremptory reason for it.

3. The tournament game system

The teams play a single round, once against each team. The winning team gets two (2) points. If the score is tied the teams get one (1) point each. After the preliminary round, the teams in third and fourth place will play the bronze medal game and teams in first and second place the gold medal game.

4. The players in the game sheet

Thirty-five (35) minutes prior to the start of each game, each team shall designate on the scoresheet the players and goalkeepers who shall be eligible to play in the game. The list of players is to be delivered into the tournament office.

5. Delay in placing lineup 

If there is any undue delay by either team in placing their lineup on the ice tor the face off, at the starting time of the game, the belated team will result in losing the game 0 – 5.

6. Standings

If two or more teams finish on equal points the rules for classification is done by using the following tiebreakers:

  1. Goal difference
  2. The number of goals scored
  3. The less number of goals scored against
  4. The quickest goal scored
  5. Drawing lots to decide the standing

If the bronze medal game or the gold medal game result is tied at the end of the game time, winning shot competition will follow. First with three pairs and after that one pair by pair untill the winner is found.

7. Penalties

Normal ice hockey penalty rules apply.

Misconduct penalty of 10 minutes, game misconduct penalty or match penalty will lead the player to be suspended from the remaining games in the tournament.

8 Other unclear incidents

All unclear incidents will be resolved by the jury nominated by the tournament organizer.

Possible protests are to be made in written format and delivered to the tournament manager within fifteen (15) minutes after the game ended. One hundred (100) euros is charged from the team for the protest and it will be returned if the protest is sustained.

In case the goaltender is injured the team must immediately appoint a substitute or temporary goalkeeper or place an additional skater on the ice who shall not have goalkeeper’s privileges.

Otherwise the Finnish Ice Hockey Association official rules and regulations for competitive Finnish ice hockey leagues apply in this tournament.
