Rules and regulations for SAIMAA TROPHY 2018

30.3.-31.3.2018, Mikkeli, Finland

1.The Player´s age

• The tournament is for junior´s born in the year 2005-2006. The participation of overaged juniors has to be separately negotiated with the tournament organizer.

2.Gametime

• Each game time is 2 x15min.

• The total time of each game is 50 minutes.

• The use of timeout is forbidden

The counting of the total time starts according to the time given in the program schedule, in case that the organizer has not announced about changes. Please be ready at the rink to start the game 10 minutes before the scheduled time of the game.

3.The ranking of the teams

• In the first series victory gives each team two points and a draw one point

• If in the first series several teams end up on equal points, the team racking is settled in the following order:

1.Points

2.Goal difference

3.Scored goals

4.Head-to-head points

5.Head-to-head goal difference

6.Head-to-head scored goals

7. Penalty minutes (whoever has less ranks better)

8. Dice 

In case that the result is a draw after full time in the placement- or in the medal-games; they are followed by game winning shots. Both teams will send 3 different players to take the shot. If needed each player will take a shot until difference is reached. The game winning shots will be taken in accordance with the competition rules of Finnish Ice Hockey Association.


4. Bodychecking

•Minor penalty (2 minutes)

- If a player receives three minor penalties, he will be removed from that certain game.

- When the same player receives a third penalty, the penalty is not suffered on the penalty bench. At the end of the penalty the penalized player's team puts on the rink the next player in turn.

- Penalties named “delay of game” and “puck over side” are not included in this.


• Major penalty (5 minutes)

- when an opponent is injured

- boarding - checking from behind

- checking to the head

- A player who receives a major penalty is automatically removed from the game. The penalty is not suffered on the penalty bench.
• Match penalty (according to the referee`s consideration)

- the risk of injury is obvious

- boarding at high speed

- body checking when skating not in the same direction

- When an opponent is injured from boarding, checking from behind or to the head.

- A player who receives a match penalty is removed from the game.

- A match penalty causes a 5 minute shorthand. The penalty is not suffered on the penalty bench.


• A penalty is not given/ judged

- when a player skates in the direction of the side of the rink

- when a tackled player is by the side of the rink and is tackled in the same direction

- when a defensive player and an offensive player skate in the same direction even though the players are at opposite front direction


5. Body harassment with a stick is forbidden

- A player is not allowed to harass an opponent with a stick from the waist up

- If an opponent is injured, the penalty is at least a 5 minute major penalty


6.Switching after icing

- The team who performs an icing, can't switch their players on the ice after the break following the icing

7. Misconduct penalties

- If the goalkeeper receives a 10 minute misconduct penalty, none of the skaters suffer the penalty on the penalty bench

- Two misconduct penalties (misconduct or game misconduct penalty) automatically cause penalty for one game. A match penalty will be shut the player out of tournament. The player is not allowed to participate the rest of the tournament games.


8. Game Jerseys

-The home team shall wear dark color jerseys, and the visitors light color jerseys unless otherwise approved. Team named first in the official schedule shall be regarded as the home team.

9. Protests and Tournament Jury

All protests are handled by the tournament jury, whose decision is final. Protests shall be filed in writing within 10 minutes after the end of the match. The protest fee is € 200, which will be returned if the protest is accepted. The jury consists of the tournament director and the Head Referee of the tournament. If necessary, the jury will also hear the match referee. The jury’s decision to approve the protest must be unanimous. Jury is not obliged to argue its decision(s).

10. Accidents

The tournament organizer has NOT insured players, and NOT responsible for participating players for any injuries or accidents occurring during the games. 

11. Changes

The tournament organizer has the right to change the fixture, if special reasons arise. Any such change will be notified without delay to the participating teams.

12. Fair Play

- The behavior of the teams, players and staff must be exemplary and in the spirit of fair play. A zero tolerance for verbal abuse is in effect and will be enforced for all team officials, players, and spectators. If this kind of action exists, it may result person being removed from the tournament. For member of staff behaving inappropriately FIHA’s competition rules are applied.

13. INTERPRETATION OF TOURNAMENT RULES

Tournament rules are composed in Finnish and English. In case of interpretation The Finnish rules are applied
